This film is an anomaly. While Tarzan is Disneyís most beautifully and artistically drawn animated feature to date (Fantasia 2000 excluded), it is also home to one of the worst and most uninteresting scripts in recent animation history. Following the exploits of Tarzan (voiced by Tony Goldwyn), we watch as Tarzan grows up, a young, white boy in a family of gorillas in the jungle. An hour and a half later, Tarzan saves his family from a very minor character, a hunter, and hooks up with Jane (Minnie Driver). There were no sub-plots, no characters specifically created to sell stuffed animals and none of the expected cute musical numbers peppered throughout the film, just Tarzan growing up and adjusting to life in a position as a minority. The animation is wondrous and well worth seeing, itís a shame the script couldnít follow suit.
